Ac Milan soccer coasters and coaster holder - design tech project

    The project that I created in Design tech this semester is a set of 6 coasters and a coaster holder designed around the current Ac Milan soccer club and their players.
    All of the coasters are made of maple wood. This was made by creating the designs for these coasters on Adobe illustrator. After the designs were made we preceded to prepare our wood. This was done by choosing the right size and type of wood that would fit all of the designs on it, then taping the part of the wood that would be cut and engraved by our lazer cutter. This prevented any burn marks appearing on our designs. We then took our designs and plugged them into the lazer cutter that would read them then cut and engrave our wood. afterwards we took the leftover tape off. These were my finished coasters. 
    To make the coaster holder we went through a similar process. we started by making the shapes of our pieces on Adobe illustrator and plugging them into the lazer cutter. The lazer cutter would then cut these pieces out. Afterwards all we had left to do was to remove the tape and assemble our coster holders using wood glue, and sand them so that they were smooth. This was my finished coaster holder.

My favorite part of this project is how personal I made my coaster and how I made them about something that I was interested in. The most challenging part of my project was getting the right dimensions for my coaster holder, this proved to be very frustrating as I had to redo my coaster holder because the dimensions were off so many times. If I did this again, the one thing I would do differently is engrave the coaster holder with the Ac Milan logo right in the center of my coaster holder. I plan to use these coasters whenever I have water at my desk. All in all I am very proud of my work and am very grateful that I took this class as I learned A lot and had lots of fun.

  My coaster project, which I based on four different Taylor Swift albums, was a unique and fun experience. Prior to my work in this course, my skills with 2D design, laser cutting, and engraving/cutting materials were basic. Throughout this project, I learned different skills and became more confident in my 2D design work.      For me, the most challenging part was designing the coasters. I wanted to make my coasters resemble the four album covers as best as possible, while still making sure they would translate well when being engraved. Quidditch Set coasters - Max Barger

 Quidditch Set Coaster Project     For my coaster project, I wanted to do something that represented one of my top interests. I chose to design and create something Harry Potter related. Through this process, I changed the design and made lots of edits to ensure I could create my ideal design. I ended up going with my first idea and made three different coasters with designs based on Harry Potter's Quidditch set and the definitions on the back.       To make these awesome coasters, I had to learn how to use Adobe Illustrator as well as the proper procedures for the laser cutter and the CNC router. Zodiac Sign Coasters-Design Tech Project

What is your project? My project for Design Tech is zodiac-themed coasters! I made one for each member of my family, with their sun sign. How did you make it? I started my process by making a design from scratch on adobe illustrator. I added the zodiac name, symbol, and star alignment on each of the coasters, along with some stars in the back to match the galaxy theme. After my design was completed, I transferred it over to be cut in the Laser Cutter. I cut my design out on maple wood, then I made my holder design. I went for a fairly simple design, so it doesn't take the spotlight away from the coasters. After all of my parts were cut out, I sanded them all down in preparation for finishing oil. I did my first layer of finishing oil, then I burnished it (with steel wool), and kept doing this process for another 2 layers.
