What Is Going On In La Tinkería?

For this project, we began by creating a design in Adobe Illustrator. Once we had finalized our design we started gathering our pieces of wood, making sure that we had the correct sizes and the correct type of wood. After gluing all of the pieces together we sanded vigorously until the wood was smooth. To ensure the wood was on the same level we used a planer. One of the final steps was using a table router to make our edges either rounder or at a 45-degree angle. Before we could see the final product we used a finishing oil that smoothed out the surface and gave it a nice shine. One of our last steps was burnishing with steel wood this took off the first layer of finishing oil while simultaneously making the surface extremely smooth.  💫💖My Amazing Cutting Board💖💫 By: Olivia 💕💝😍👅 Our project for Design Tech was to make a cutting board. I made it with three different   types of wood, cherry, walnut, and maple. We sketched our ideas and figured out the dimensions for the cutting board. Once we knew how much wood we needed, we cut it out and glued it. My partner and I (Angelica) finished gluing the wood strips together and then cut it in half so we could each have a half. Once that step was finished, we flattened the board and sanded it. Then we used two coats of finishing oil. After that, we burnished twice. I also did the extra step of engraving my mom's monogram on the cutting board. My favorite thing was engraving the letters on the board and seeing it all come together. The hardest thing was getting over the fear of cutting the wood because the blades were very scary and fast. I might do more engraving because it was really fun. I am going to give it to my mom for Christmas.

cutting board  my project is a cutting board that I engraved with a character from a TV show  I made it by cutting out 5 different pieces of wood and then gluing them together I also used the Lazer  cutter to engrave something on it  my favorite part is probably the engraving which was supposed to go Mutch deeper into the wood but still turned out looking pretty good   if I did it again I might fix the engraving even though it still worked out pretty well I might still use it as a cutting board or I might put it in my room at home (pictures)

Wood cutting board project- Angelica Larach  12-16-24 What is your project? For this project, I made a Cutting board with my partner Olivia.  how did you make it? We started by sketching out the design for our cutting boards. Next, we selected our wood and glued the pieces together. Once the glue was set, we cut the sides using a table router to make the edges even. Then, we cut the board in half so we each had one. After that, we ran the wood through a thickness planer several times. I sanded the board thoroughly and applies a coat of wood finish. Once it dried, I added a second coat and it was ready to go.  what do you like most about your project? I really enjoyed this project because I learned how to use a table router and run wood through a thickness planer.  what would you change about this project if you did it again?  If I were to change anything about this project, I might try creating a more complex design to make it look more unique. 

In this project we began by finding our design on the internet and then we recreated the design on adobe illustrator. The next step we did was by getting our dimension of the different colored wooden pieces, so that we could order our required amount of each type of wood. After the wood arrived we cut them into pieces from our design earlier, once we cut them we glued them into place and removed all excess glue that may have squeezed out when we put the board together, after we removed all the glue we cut the board into two pieces as we worked in pairs. We finally began smoothing out the board with the planer which would remove just a bit of the wood to make it smoother than before, after this step we used a table router to round out the edges of the board. Then we began the smoothing process by sanding the board and then applying finishing oil on it.       My second Tikeria Project was a wood Charcuterie board. It was originally designed to be a cutting board, but I decided to make a decorative Charcuterie board for parties. There were a limited number of wood clamps, so I partnered with another student. The plan was to make a 24-inch board, and cut it into halves, so we could each have a project.      We had 3 types of wood available to us. These were Maple, Cherry, and Walnut. We decided to make a color contrast board. Cherry was the darkest, and Maple was the lightest. We also used Walnut. Our plan was to use the table saw to cut out 5 pieces of wood. 1 was Cherry and there were 2 of each for Walnut and Maple. The cherry plank was to be placed in the middle, and on each side, the pieces would get lighter. The final order was Maple- Walnut- Cherry- Walnut- Maple.      After cutting out our planks, we glued and clamped them together. Next class, we cut our own halves. After that, I used ...

Ambika Krishnamoorti 12/16/24         What is your project? My project is creating a cutting board  How did you make it? I started by designing the shape and measurements of my cutting board. Then, I cut three pieces of wood: walnut, cherry, and maple. After I cut all the wood I wanted, I aligned them all up and glued them together. After gluing and letting it dry, I used a scraper to remove any glue seeping through the wood. Once all of the glue was removed, I used a planer to smooth out the cutting board. With this, I placed the wood through the machine 5-7 times each time to ensure that the wood would come out smooth. Once this was done, I used a table router to create a curved edge on all of the sides. I then sanded the board first with 120-grit sandpaper and then 220-grit sandpaper to smoothen out the board even more.  My project was in teams and then we split up halfway through. We made it with two types of wood, walnut and maple. we cut them to the right size. glued them together and then cut them in half. I got the smaller half and she got the bigger half. I then put it through a planer that cut the top off to make it more smooth. I then sanded it and then put a wood finish on it. I am going to wood burn a Lilly into it and then put more wood finish on it. but here is what it looks like now. I had the most challenging part with the cutting. I loved gluing and putting the wood finish on.  there is nothing I would change about this project. my plan is to give this to my mother for Christmas!

My project was making a cutting board of multiple different kinds of wood.  How did you make it?  In Design Tech, we've been making our own wooden cutting boards. We designed these cutting boards in duos and cut them in half at the end so each person had their own. For my cutting board, I attempted an optical illusion pattern where the two different colors of wood phase into each other.  To make these, my partner and I first sketched our design on a piece of paper with measurements. Then, we used the table saw to cut out our strips of wood. After we cut out the wood, we glued them together and used clamps to hold them in place for a few days. Once the glue was dry, we used the planer to plane the cutting board so it would be flat. We also cut off the edges so they line up. After that, we used the table saw to cut the board in half, so I finally had my own. Then, I used the router to round the edges of the board.   For this project, we were instructed to make coasters and coaster holders. I decided to design mine with snowflake patterns. The process involved sketching out the snowflake designs, finalizing them in design software and then cutting them out using a laser cutter. My favorite part is how the snowflake details turned out. The biggest challenge was making sure the lines of the snowflakes were perfectly straight, but after some trial and error, I got it right. If I could redo the project, I would probably use different materials like acrylic, to add some color to it.

 Star Wars gambling cards by Declan I made my coasters to look like Star Wars cards that they use to play Sabak which is basically Star Wars poker my favorite part is the sometimes geometric designs and that they are from Star Wars. there were a few problems with the Lazer cutter so I eventually had to switch from wood to acrylic but overall I think it went really well.

 My project is a coaster that looks like a squat rack with weights. It is made of acrylic which is a plastic like material, it is transparent but I used ones that had color. For the rack it is made out of wood which I then used the laser cutter to cut out my pieces, then I painted the pieces and put them together. My favorite part of the project was learning how to use the laser cutter and watching it cut out all of my pieces extremely precise. Something that was challenging was finding the right measurements for my squat rack. I would have to change anything in my coaster I would change the proportions a little as the weight has a considerably larger mass then the rack. My plan is to have this coaster in the living room as I can have easy access to it and as well as having it on display. Pictures:

Pirates of the Caribbean Coaster Set By Jonah Lawrence My first Tinkeria project was/is a set of coasters engraved with different pirate skulls, and ships from Pirates of the Caribbean. I also made a black coaster holder engraved with the Dead Man’s Key, and Blackbeard’s sword.  I had some issues get ting Illustrator (our design software) to work on my laptop. In the end, I got a loaner computer that could work with the software. I knew what I wanted to do with my coasters. I traced blank pirate skulls from google and added bandanas and swords into sized circles (I made the bandanas, but the swords were image traced). After the coasters, I designed the holder to hold 2 stacks of 2 coasters each. My teacher gave me this suggestion after realizing that my wood was too small for one circular stack.
