What is your project?

My project was making a cutting board of multiple different kinds of wood. 


How did you make it?

I began by getting different types of wood, such as cherry, maple, and walnut.    I then made a rip cut on the table saw to the three different types of wood that I used. I then did a cross-cut so that the pieces of wood would fit into my cutting board. Once I finished all the final cuts of wood I then glued the pieces of wood together with wood glue and I used a clamp to hold them together.  Once the glue had dried I took off the clamps,   I then went to the table saw and cut out my cutting board to the right measurements.    I then passed my cutting board through the thickness planer.   Which cuts down the thickness of the wood and makes sure the cutting board is even and smooth.    After I finished this, I rounded all of the sides and edges of my cutting board with the router.   This machine made the final product of my cutting board complete. I then sanded it down on all the sides and then I went in with finishing oil on the wood.   



What do you like most about your project?

I really like the different types of wood I chose for my cutting board, the final product came out with a really cool design.   


What was challenging about this project?

I was challenged by using the router table, I found it hard using the router table because it went very fast and I found it interesting and a little difficult on how I was supposed to use the machine and it was hard for me to position my self and how to position my cutting board in the right amount of space to get the rounded edges of my cutting board.   



What would you change about this project if you did it again?

I would change the layout of the different types of wood Because I would want to see a different style of where the wood could be placed.


What is your plan for it now that it's done?

I will be giving it to my family as a Christmas gift.

Acrylic Beverage Coasters - Design Tech Project

For my design tech project, I created 5 coasters and an accompanying coaster holder. Everything is made from clear acrylic, and the coasters are adorned with engravings of the Post Oak Bearkat paw.  I made the coaster using Adobe Illustrator to create the design and a laser cutter to engrave and cut out the coasters. The coasters are 3.5 inches in diameter and a quarter of an inch thick. Firstly, I created circles and found the design of the Bearkat paw. The background of the coaster is filled with topographic lines. I designed the coaster holder in pieces on Adobe Illustrator, and after cutting it out with the laser cutter, I used acrylic cement to bond the pieces together.  I like the see-through aspects of the coasters the most because it feels unique and kind of futuristic. Ace Coasters - Design Tech Project

Ace Coasters 🂡 I made four coasters for the four aces in a deck of playing cards. My coaster holder was a loose copy of the traditional Bicycle card box. I made both using Adobe Illustrator and a laser cutter. I designed a net for me to fold into a box and engraved patterns using the laser cutter. I made the pattern for my coaster using Adobe Illustrator and then cut and engraves the coasters also with the laser cutter. After finshing my coasters, I varnished them with varnish oil. My favorite part of my coasters is the precision in the design. Every little detail I designed shows up clearly on the coaster due to the laser cutter's ability to engrave very precisely. The toughest part was designing the perfect box. My first box had issues with the power of the engraving and the cards did not fit snuggly. Illustrator coaster designs (4) - Design Tech

apologies for the low quality graphics  What is your project? My project is a set of coasters with different engravings on each, paired with a simple looking coaster holder. I was planning to cut the coasters out on light-colored wood, like cherry wood, and the coaster holder from a darker wood, preferably walnut.  How did you make it? I started by gathering ideas and inspiration from the internet and hand-drawing potential designs. Once I had a general plan I started working with illustrator. I found images that I could put together and edit to make my design as well as creating shapes and lines in the program. I didn't get to cut out my project because I'm a student online, so the extent of my project ends here.  What do you like most about your project?
