 My project is a wooden cutting board made from three different types of wood: maple, walnut, and cherry. To complete the project, the design was planned, the wood pieces were cut and assembled by my partner while I was absent, and then I sanded the board until it was smooth and applied varnish to finish it. My favorite part of the project is the look of the different woods together because the contrast between the maple, walnut, and cherry makes the board visually interesting. The most challenging part was making sure the sanding was even and smooth so the final finish looked clean. If I were to do this project again, I would be more involved during the cutting stage so I could experience every step of the process. Now that the project is finished, I plan to keep and use the cutting board at home.

  Madeleine Genzer  11/12/24 My project was creating four coasters that were inspired by the beach, the plan I took to make my coasters was first to go to Illustrator and make my design for my coasters as well as my holder.    I designed four coasters on the laser cutter which include an Anker, a shell, and a hibiscus flower, as well as a two beach chair with an umbrella.   I then went on to make my coaster holder I first designed it on Illustrator, and then I went on to make it on the CNC Router.   The materials I used to make my coaster holder and my coasters were cherry wood, a Laser Cutter, a CNC Router, Sandpaper, and a wood polisher.    Some challenges I faced were getting the correct measurements in Illustrator and making sure everything was aligned right so that when it was cutting out on the laser cutter and CNC router everything went smoothly.    What I would change about my coasters would be to make them the size big...

Design Tech Cutting Board

 💫💖My Amazing Cutting Board💖💫 By: Olivia 💕💝😍👅 Our project for Design Tech was to make a cutting board. I made it with three different   types of wood, cherry, walnut, and maple. We sketched our ideas and figured out the dimensions for the cutting board. Once we knew how much wood we needed, we cut it out and glued it. My partner and I (Angelica) finished gluing the wood strips together and then cut it in half so we could each have a half. Once that step was finished, we flattened the board and sanded it. Then we used two coats of finishing oil. After that, we burnished twice. I also did the extra step of engraving my mom's monogram on the cutting board. My favorite thing was engraving the letters on the board and seeing it all come together. The hardest thing was getting over the fear of cutting the wood because the blades were very scary and fast. I might do more engraving because it was really fun. I am going to give it to my mom for Christmas.

  What is your project? My project was to make coasters and a coaster holder. How did you make it? I cut out my coasters on the Laser Cutter and made them in Adobe Illustrator.  I made my coaster holder on the CNC router using Adobe Illustrator and then translating it to Easel  What do you like most about your project? I liked that my coasters have a repeating pattern of one shape throughout.  What was challenging about this project? The most challenging part of this project was the fact that in the beginning, my computer decided to crash and delete my coasters multiple times.  What would you change about the project if you did it again? If I did this project again, for the coasters, I would go for a more varied design rather than shapes.
