Toyota Supra puzzle - Baker

For My design tech project, I chose to make coasters that were in the shape of puzzle pieces with some scrap plywood. The puzzle pieces had an image of a Toyota Supra MK4 engraved onto them. The holder that I made used a base rectangle of plywood and then a rectangle without a middle to hold the completed 6-piece puzzle together so that the image could be displayed.  I used Adobe Illustrator to design both my coasters and my coaster holder. After I designed the coaster and coaster holder, I sent them to the laser cutter/engraver to cut out the pieces. After that, I just had to glue the 2 sections of the coaster holder together and sand everything down so that it was nice and smooth. I think my favorite part about this project is the way that the puzzle pieces fit together. It is a very minimalistic design and the pieces are not complex but very simple. I did have some challenges making the coasters but my biggest challenge was designing the outlines of the puzzle pieces. I had to design it so that there was a clear layer of pieces over the outline of the car and it took me quite a bit of time to perfect it. If I could change one thing about the coaster and coaster holder, it would be to use a different type of wood just because plywood is not very elegant and looks gross sometimes. Now that my coaster is finished, I think I am going to take it home and keep it on my desk for when I need it.
