Game Character Drawing - Design Tech Project

  • What is your project?
    My coasters consist of four identical walnut coasters that are about 3 inches in width and length. The design consists of a drawing I made of a character from the game ULTRAKILL, with elements pertaining to the game on the top, left, and top left areas.




  • What were the steps you took to complete your project?
    We first started out by designing our coasters and coaster holders on Adobe Illustrator before exporting our coasters to the laser cutter, where they would be accurately cut out from a board of wood that we had decided on the measurements and type of wood. After this, most of us would work on varnishing our coasters as we waited for the CNC Router to cut out our coaster holders. After this, we sand and varnish our coaster holder, before burnishing both, and then apply a second layer of varnish, finishing off our coasters and coaster holders



  • What do you like most about your project? Explain.
    I like the drawing on my coaster as it was what I drew a few years ago; I regard it as my best drawing to date.



  • What was challenging about this project? Explain.
    Designing our coasters to be the way we envisioned them was extremely challenging. Just because we were able to envision it in our heads didn't mean we would be able to design it; some mistakes can slip through our vision, and we might not have enough time to go back and fix them.



  • What would you change about the project if you did it again? Why?
    I would have wanted to have drawn more designs for the coasters so that each was its own design, but by the time I had made my coaster, it was already too late



  • What is your plan for it now that it's done?
    Honestly, it's probably going to rot away in my room since my family doesn't use coasters.

Design Tech Cutting Board

 💫💖My Amazing Cutting Board💖💫 By: Olivia 💕💝😍👅 Our project for Design Tech was to make a cutting board. I made it with three different   types of wood, cherry, walnut, and maple. We sketched our ideas and figured out the dimensions for the cutting board. Once we knew how much wood we needed, we cut it out and glued it. My partner and I (Angelica) finished gluing the wood strips together and then cut it in half so we could each have a half. Once that step was finished, we flattened the board and sanded it. Then we used two coats of finishing oil. After that, we burnished twice. I also did the extra step of engraving my mom's monogram on the cutting board. My favorite thing was engraving the letters on the board and seeing it all come together. The hardest thing was getting over the fear of cutting the wood because the blades were very scary and fast. I might do more engraving because it was really fun. I am going to give it to my mom for Christmas.

Asymmetrical serving board

  What is your project? my project is a small serving board How did you make it? We cut many pieces of cherry and walnut ignorer to create our design What do you like most about your project? I like the non standard design of my board. Most people chose to create or use symmetrical cutting boards. I also like that I created a large chamfer on the Bottom edge to create a floating look. What was challenging about this project? it was challenging to decide what points to use so the grain would align nicely. What would you change about the project if you did it again? I would cut the chamfer to be on the other side. it looks fine but I think it could be better. What is your plan for it now that it's done? it will live in the kitchen and be used from time to time with guests.

Coastal Coasters

  Madeleine Genzer  11/12/24 My project was creating four coasters that were inspired by the beach, the plan I took to make my coasters was first to go to Illustrator and make my design for my coasters as well as my holder.    I designed four coasters on the laser cutter which include an Anker, a shell, and a hibiscus flower, as well as a two beach chair with an umbrella.   I then went on to make my coaster holder I first designed it on Illustrator, and then I went on to make it on the CNC Router.   The materials I used to make my coaster holder and my coasters were cherry wood, a Laser Cutter, a CNC Router, Sandpaper, and a wood polisher.    Some challenges I faced were getting the correct measurements in Illustrator and making sure everything was aligned right so that when it was cutting out on the laser cutter and CNC router everything went smoothly.    What I would change about my coasters would be to make them the size big...
