Piece by Piece - Design Tech Coasters
For this project, I had to make a Coaster and a Coaster Holder for this course. I had many ideas for what kind of coasters and coaster holders I wanted to make, but then I decided to stick with making connecting puzzle pieces with a coaster holder that held all the pieces together. This Project had multiple steps. The first step was to draw the coaster design on a piece of paper, and we also had to fill out a sheet listing all the wood options we wanted to use for our coasters. Later on, we started cutting out our design on a piece of wood with the wood cutter. After we had cut out our coasters and coaster holders, it was time to rub varnish oil onto them to smooth the wood. This had to be done twice. After all of these steps, our coasters were completed. I have enjoyed making the coasters alot. I enjoyed designing in Adobe Illustrator because on this platform, I could sketch out different ideas and shapes for the puzzle pieces I could make, even though it took a while. Another favorite part was watching my wood get cut out. I have had many times where I struggled, including when I didn't stick to something and do it. It took me a while to finally decide what I wanted to do, but then I stuck to it and did it. Other than that, the rest of the project was easy for me. I would've made a different design because this coaster holder was made only after I took a long time deciding what I wanted to do, so I made this coaster because it was something I could do with the rest of the time I had. The coaster, overall, looks great, and it shows the different emotions that connect together. I will take it home and put the coaster to use, as it was made to do: as a coaster for drinks. This coaster also functions as a placemat for larger plates. This project was very fun. Hopefully, there are more of these kinds of projects in the future
