 Quidditch Set Coaster Project     For my coaster project, I wanted to do something that represented one of my top interests. I chose to design and create something Harry Potter related. Through this process, I changed the design and made lots of edits to ensure I could create my ideal design. I ended up going with my first idea and made three different coasters with designs based on Harry Potter's Quidditch set and the definitions on the back.       To make these awesome coasters, I had to learn how to use Adobe Illustrator as well as the proper procedures for the laser cutter and the CNC router. Prior to this, I had virtually no experience with these materials and tools, so it was a long process that was definitely worth learning.                                                                        Flower Coasters for my Grandmother   For my coaster holder project, I decided to make coasters for my grandmother that represent her. The first thing I did was take the flowers that my grandmother drew and traced them to put them in Adobe Illustrator. After editing the flowers to my liking, I uploaded them to the laser cutter so I could start prepping my acrylic to become the actual coaster.  While my coaster holders were being designed, I decided to start planning out my coaster holder.        For my coaster and coaster holder project, I made coasters that have different cities on each. The cities I chose are; St. Louis, Chicago, Austin, and Rome. When I was planning my project I wanted to incorporate something meaningful to me. I came up with the idea of making city skylines from cities that are important to me and my family. Rather than just using a pre-made skyline I decided to create my own skyline. For my coasters, the first thing I did was create my designs in Adobe Illustrator. After a very long process of designing my coasters in Adobe Illustrator, I was finally able to cut them out using the laser cuter. To make my coaster holder, I also used Adobe Illustrator. After I designed my coaster holder in Illustrator I uploaded my design to a website called Easel. My two projects: one of my projects is my coaster and the other is my coaster holder the plan was to make a cute coaster holder that had little things I thought of when I thought about my family  I used a laser cutter and the CNC router to make a hole in my coaster holder so I can glue it together. I liked the fact that even though the drawings I chose didn't come out exactly how I wanted them too they still came out cute and better than I expected and are the perfect size for a cup and they absorb water pretty well. What was challenging about the project in my opinion was definitely the coding and figuring out what size to make certain aspects and having to resize or remove aspects of the coaster so you can fit it on the wood. I would maybe make my art look less pixelated and try to make my coasters a little bigger. I will gift it to my family and let them use it and I will keep one to myself to remember my hard work

All four designs are various images imported and put together by me. Using a CNC router (A machine specializing in cutting on specific pieces of wood or plastic), and a laser cutter meant for making the actual designs on the coasters and cutting out less precise pieces such as the boundaries of the coasters and coaster holder.  My favorite part of the project was seeing how my work was finally materializing in front of me while it was being engraved with the laser cutter.       In this project I worked on making Pac-Man themed coasters and a coaster holder to hold them. To make my project, I first started by trying to find a good idea I would be happy with making. It took some time, but after finding a few ideas I chose to make 6 coasters all with different characters or items from Pac-Man. I got reference photos of Pac-Man, two ghosts, one of those scared ghosts, a pixelized strawberry, and the pixelized cherries, all from the internet. Once I put together the reference photos, I got to work on designing what I wanted to laser cut or a software called Adobe Illustrator. The weeks before we started our projects we had been taught how to use Adobe Illustrator, so it wasn't too hard but still a little difficult. It took me around 3 of the 2 hour classes to finish the designs and once I was done I was has happy with the finished  products.
